COVID-19 Online Learning

ABOUT ONLINE LEARNING

If you have not reported your need for online learning to the office, please have a parent/guardian call the school at 812-421-1820. If you are feeling ill and cannot attend your classes online, a parent/guardian needs to call the school to report the absence. If you need to exit online learning due to an appointment, a parent/guardian will need to call the school to notify us of the appointment. Doctor notes can be faxed to 812-421-1820 or emailed to [email protected]

These are the items you need to attend your classes online:

  • Internet sufficient for streaming video.
  • A laptop or desktop device that is connected to the internet and is solely yours to use during the online learning period.
  • Microphone and speakers connected to or installed in your laptop or desktop device (a headset would be great, but is not required).
  • A webcam connected to or installed in your laptop or desktop device.
  • Active Schoology credentials (email [email protected] if you need help with Schoology).

If you need extra assistance with any of the above, please contact Ms. Cates at [email protected].

To access your classes, please sign on to Schoology (www.schoology.com) and locate the video conference information for each class you will be attending online. If you do not see the video conference info, or you have questions about the video conference or what your teacher expects, please reach out to your teachers with those questions. Teacher emails are available here: https://signature.edu/directory

If you have any questions about this, please call the school office at 812-421-1820.

ONLINE STUDENT GUIDELINES DURING COVID-19

  • All our students are Signature students, whether attending class online or in person.
    • We expect everyone to attend class dressed in accordance with our dress code and conducting themselves as they would in our school setting.
    • Students using an online meeting room background should choose one that is not distracting.

  • Students who are engaged get more out of class, and we want all students engaged.
    • Online students should have cameras on so that teachers can see them. If there is a specific reason why a student is unable to do this for a certain class, that student should get in touch with the teacher in advance of the class and get the teacher’s okay.
    • Although we recognize there may be some awkwardness initially, we expect our online students to speak up.  Teachers may have difficulty hearing at times, but I assure you they want to have everyone speaking.
    • Online students should be able to readily toggle from mic off to mic on so that they can function as any other student in the room, answering and asking questions, and interjecting comments when appropriate
    • Students should not be shy about participating in class or about getting their needs met. If they are having trouble seeing or hearing, the best way to resolve the issue is during class.

  • Mrs. White is the first point of contact for non-academic questions about online learning.
    • If a student is having trouble getting admitted to an online meeting, she/he should call Mrs. White at the front desk (812-421-1820).  Mrs. White will immediately notify the teacher.
    • If you have any other concerns about online learning, please call or email Mrs. White ([email protected]). She will make sure that your query lands in the right place.

  • We know that there may be legitimate glitches in signing in on time and students will not be penalized in terms of attendance if this is the case.  Students are responsible for communicating any obstacles immediately to the teacher and, if the teacher is unreachable at the beginning of a class, to the office.
