PTSA President’s Message

Wow! This year is going by quickly! It seems like just yesterday we were getting started
with back to school picnic. We had a very successful fall term, one full of hard work,
fun, fundraising, education and service opportunities. Now we must dig in for another
term full of the same! I wanted to take this opportunity to share what PTSA activities
will be happening during the spring term and ask you to pledge a few hours of your time
to Signature.

Our term starts with the Evansville Area Council PTSA Founder’s Day Gala. This event
celebrates the founding of PTA and the accomplishments of our local PTSA chapters.
Signature PTSA is hosting this dinner and awards ceremony on February 25, 2010. We
have planned an evening with the theme “Thinking Globally, Learning Locally”. Sound
familiar? We have planned an international evening of engaging speakers, Signature
talent, and a few surprises. Contact one of the PTSA officers to make your reservation
for this wonderful evening!

March 17 is Signature School’s assigned night to work in the Area Council Clothing
Bank. Parents and students are needed to help sort clothing into sizes and display
appropriately for shopping. Community Service hours are available for participation in
the work night activities. Watch the bulletin for information about our upcoming
deodorant and clothing drive to benefit the clothing bank. Details about the work night
will be announced via email and The Bulletin.

In April we will be sponsoring our second family community service event. We will be
participating in Global Youth Service Day events. This will be an opportunity for
parents, siblings, students and staff to band together to work for the benefit of our
community. Community Service Hours can be earned during this event. Watch your
email and the Daily Bulletin for more information that will come soon.

Also in April our students will be having Prom and After Prom Activities. Our students
and Sra Razor are working hard to make this a night they will always remember. They
are looking for donations of white strand holiday lights to use for decorations. They are
also looking for volunteers to help with decorating and chaperones. Please contact Sra
Razor if you can give a few hours of time to these events.

To finish off this great year, May brings AP and IB Testing days. This is a stressful time
for our students and staff. Volunteers will be needed as hall monitors. Donations of
water and snacks for our students will be needed. Perhaps, this year, we could come up
with a few surprises during lunch times and after school to help take the stress away.
May also brings us to an exciting time for our Seniors. Senior Week activities include
Honors Night, perhaps a new twist on Senior Luncheon and Graduation. Volunteers are
needed for all of these activities.

If this isn’t enough, your officers are already planning for Fall! Today, I wish to issue a
challenge. I challenge you to become more involved in your PTSA in 2010. Let’s do
some things we’ve never tried before, let’s come up with some “out of this world”
activities for our students, and let’s spoil our staff like no one else could! All it takes is
you and a little of your time! Please email me and tell me how you’d like to become
involved in the Signature experience (becky.joest@siho.org).

Respectfully,

Becky Joest
Signature PTSA President
